With Red—or, as he's officially known, RedRoan Chili Pepper—we couldn't have made a better choice. He's such a soul of a horse: very smart, very affectionate toward people, completely at peace with himself (especially for his age), and simply a treasure.
We'd been in contact with Red's breeder in France long before he was even born. We'd had our eyes on a filly from this pairing, Red Roan Splash. So when we heard the news that the foal had been born—but that it was a colt—we were deeply disappointed. After all, he was exactly as we'd imagined him.
About a week after the birth, Captain's accident happened. A tragedy. We were in shock and simply desperate. For us, it was clear: no more stallions. But man makes plans, and fate has a way of laughing. We just couldn't forget the little guy and kept thinking about him from time to time; we also wondered why he still hadn't been sold, since he's a real breeding gem. And so we decided to leave it up to fate. If he couldn't pass on the agouti (brown) coat color (which was pretty unlikely), we wanted to take a closer look. A test was done, but even before we had the result we were hoping for, it was clear to us that this young man would enrich our family.

Now about him: His pedigree reads like a "Who's Who" of successful million-dollar sires: Hickory Holly Time, Big Chex To Cash, Shiner Olena—to name just a few. And the absolute highlight: He is 11.33% in line with the incomparable Mr. Gun Smoke and 90.58% Foundation-bred!
Not only is his pedigree a dream, but he's also free of all currently testable genetic defects. And he's not deaf! His color genetics are ee/aa/Rn/Sw1Sw1. This means that when bred to homozygous black mares, he would always produce only black or blue roan foals with splash.

We're looking forward to the future with him. Whatever that may hold, we're glad he greets us every day with a little grumble.
